From Tin Pan Alley to Tapestry: Jewish Americans in Pop Music
Join TeachRock and the Department of Social Studies and Civics for a day of professional learning at the Center for Jewish History.
Attendees will explore TeachRock’s resources and discover how to use music as a primary source pedagogy, investigate Passport to Social Studies and Hidden Voicescurricular materials about Jewish Americans in popular music, while engaging with multiple artifacts from the collections of the Partner organizations at the Center for Jewish History as well as learning with special guests.
This session, which is part of the 2025-2026 Rock and Roll Classroom PL Tour, will provide teachers with lesson plans, materials, and strategies to bring this transformative cultural movement to life in their classrooms.

Hidden Voices is a NYC Department of Education project that brings to light historical figures and stories often excluded from traditional textbooks, promoting inclusive learning experiences. Hidden Voices is designed to encourage students to find their own voice by engaging with diverse perspectives and contributions.

Join the Museum of Jewish Heritage and Center for Jewish History as we explore the story of Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, a Holocaust survivor who played in the Auschwitz orchestra during her time in the camp. Through primary sources, testimony, and lesson plans, we will explore pedagogy for bringing this into your classroom. Participants will receive CTLE credit.
The program is free, but pre-registration is required.
