Biography

Born in Horitz, Austria-Hungary (now Horice, Czechoslovakia), on November 22, 1849, Mauthner was an author, journalist, theatrical critic, and philosopher, known for his work on the philosophy of language. He moved to Berlin in 1876, to Freiburg im Breisgau in 1900, and died in Meersburg on June 29, 1923.


Scope and content note

This Collection represents the complete literary estate of Fritz Mauthner, as preserved by the catholic priest, geistlicher Rat Wilhelm Rostle of Meersburg, Germany, who kept it since Mauthner's death in 1923 and donated it to the Leo Baeck Institute in 1966.
